MJO Contracting Inc is a family owned and operated construction business located in Hancock, MI. The corporation was founded in 1976 by Michael Oja who started with building custom homes and other residential projects in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan with a small crew of guys.

During the 90’s, the company began to grow and ventured into excavation, trucking, and commercial building work along with residential construction. Michael’s two sons and two son-in laws began working in the 90’s and mainly worked in the excavation and commercial fields. The economy continued to grow through the early 2000’s which allowed the company to continue growing in all aspects of general construction including directional drilling, and MDOT highway construction. During the economic downturn from 2008 through 2011 we were able to maintain the business by traveling further from home to keep the crew working. In 2012, Michael decided to retire and the two sons and son-in-laws have continued the operation of the business along with many friends and family who work with us.

Today we still do the same types of work we have always done but have added marine construction, bridge construction, crane work, and a metal fabrication to our continually growing company.
